Training opportunities for the development of skills and knowledge
Earlier this week, I took a technology proficiency test and the results showed that I was lacking in multiple areas. In addition, I discovered that my 'commitment' scores revealed that I was highly enthusiastic about implementing different technologies in the classroom. Based on my perceived insufficiencies and after careful consideration, I have devised a plan that will help me identify the skills that I need to develop and to seek appropriate training opportunities for the development of such skills and knowledge.
Technological Insufficiencies
According to the test results, I was not proficient with the following areas: student networking via computer, video teleconferencing, interactive multimedia/hypermedia, web page authoring, computer assisted instruction (CAI), newsgroups, electronic gradebook, and networking with file server. I was somewhat proficient with CD-ROMS and DVD's, word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets/graphing, and databases. This can be explained because I had some practice with these particular programs during my two year education resulting in a Master's in Business Administration. Since the goal is to become proficient or somewhat proficient in all areas, I have created an extended and complex curriculum that will need to be implemented immediately. The goal is to complete the program within a year in order to become technologically savvy before I began my student teaching.
