Working together to meet common objectives and goals

Although conflict can be detrimental, it can also be beneficial and in most cases, it is necessary to produce a well-planned project. Thompson refers to positive conflict as "constructive" (238). It fosters growth and "enhances group productivity" (238). The absence of disagreement to the extreme can foster "group-think" (Sternberg 496). This can also foster a negative outcome. "Group-think" occurs when all parties involved agree to agree, against best interest and common sense. In this case, since there is not any point of contention, there is nothing ventured and nothing gained within the exchange. Since the Learning Team Model is critical for the success of the MBA Program at the University of Phoenix, each team member must recognize that conflict is inevitable. By recognizing this fact at the very onset of each team formation, potential conflicts can be avoided, and those conflicts that do arise can actually be beneficial providing creative solutions that otherwise would not have been exposed. Whether in a study team at school, a research team for a corporation, or a professional sports team, conflict will arise. Success will only come to those teams that are able to manage this conflict in a positive way.
